Why I Choose DKWSA, The Podcast You NEED, & Products Your Hair Can Not Survive Without.
Hey, Hey, Sis! We’re going to chat all things beauty here, today I’m chatting about my favorite hair-care products and Best Friends Podcast! But first, let me tell you all about WHY I choose NBR and how INCREDIBLE Convention was!
I chose DKWSA and will always be apart of the tribe because we are shifting the trajectory of our Industry. Not only do we give our guests the most luxurious hair they can imagine, feeling beautiful inside and out, but we also educate Stylists on how to become Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Marketers—not JUST Hairdressers. (My favorite part about it)
When I was a little girl I never thought I wanted to be a hairdresser because the ones I knew were broke… or at least they looked it. They worked awful hours and seemed miserable. When I turned 18 I went to ULL and thought I would become a Business major THEN go to hair school…because you have to have a degree to own a salon, duh. Well, I quickly realized 80k in student loans for a Business Degree was not in my budget. So, during Christmas break I moved back home a began my journey as a Hairstylist. I was always triggered by the term “hairdresser”. To me, the title sounded less than, bottom-of-the-barrel, and looked down on. I told myself early on that I will only refer to myself as a Hair STYLIST. lol. Dumb 18 year old me really cared about that.
I always felt a strong pull to do more than JUST hair. I found the best mentor to work under, opened my own LLC at 19 and life was so fun. I started making money FAST and was so uneducated on how to run a business. Before offering NBR extensions, I was offering a wide range of services and thought “this is just how it is. One day I’ll be color only”. Until I found Natural Beaded Rows; that is where my mindset shifted.
My story starts here. Right before Covid (January 2020) I chopped off my hair to my chin, went platinum, and was ready to shake my booty next season on the field (see more in my bio) well… that never happened. I was quickly over my short, blunt, bob and wanted my hair to GROW.
Fast forward to August when I found NBR. Honestly, I wasn’t looking into becoming an exclusive extension artist, but I gave it a shot and said, “if these things work in my short, blunt, thick hair—I’M SOLD”
Clearly they did because you’re here reading my story. Okay, jump to October 2020, I was headed to my first NBR intensive in Dana Point, California and I was a spring chicken. Boy, was I in for a ride of a lifetime. They introduced thoughts and ideas to me that I didn’t know were possible as a Hairstylist. I CAN offer extensions only, I CAN say '“no” to services, I CAN charge thousands of dollars for hair, I CAN manage a business and be successful, and most importantly, I CAN be more than just a hairdresser. It sparked something inside of me I had no idea was there. All of a sudden, it’s like I woke up and saw my potential.
My ideas began to grow bigger than the people around me. I began to see my dreams become reality. Looking back, I can see it all much clearer. *que sad country song* Friction happens when you become too big for those around you. Trust me, I know from experience. Growing up I was always too much, too loud, too outspoken, too fill-in-the-blank. But not for the NBR Tribe, I fit right in. So when I saw this happen within my business I was not surprised. I was told I can’t do that. I can’t charge that, and I don’t think this will work… maybe in California. Well, I more than doubled my income my first year as an NBR Artist. So if you’re reading this, I DID DO THAT… IN LOUISIANA.
All because DKWSA pushed me out of a small town mindset. Here I am, in San Antonio, Texas almost three years in my NBR Career and further than I’d ever imagined I could take my business all because of this Tribe.
This year's convention has topped every experience I’ve had, yet.
Pivotal moments happened within my business. You know how you think about something for a really long time and know you need to do it, but don’t until someone else tells you to get your butt in gear and then you’re like “LET’S GEAUX. IT IS TIME TO MAKE MOVES”? Yeah, I had like 40 of those!
Stars SHINED. (By this I mean every person who walked across that stage and spoke wisdom about running a business) This year, Coaches AND fellow students had the opportunity to speak and tell their stories. It was my favorite part.
I realized failing forward isn’t a fail at all—just course correction. Even though this season is pivotal and I’m making some exciting life changes, IT HAS BEEN HARD. I’ll get into this another time but hearing everyone’s stories filled me up and gave me that boost of hope I had let go of. Relocating 600 miles away and building a business from the ground up is TOUGH, BABY.
Anyways, friendships were made. Horizons were broadened. Opportunities were expanded. The years prior were fun, exciting, and full of good tidbits of information. This year… I am leaving feeling excited and encouraged with new strategies to bring success to my family and business. I actually wrote in my notebook this year, I never felt like I needed to before. To every trainer and fellow leader within the academy, YOU CRUSHED IT. Seeing Y’all shine was truly the best part.
We are monopolizing every avenue and uplifting each other—not only in workplace chat but now, in real life. Being apart of this community has changed the trajectory of my career and where I believe my limits are. I’m not just a small-town stylist who does okay. I’m An entrepreneur who is going to blow the city of San Antonio, Texas UP with NBR Extensions.

& LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST… HAIR CARE!
Today I am sharing my FAVORITE Kevin Murphy products with you! Let’s start with dry shampoo, because ya’ll know I NEVER wash my hair! First off, KM is a clean line. This is important, especially for your extensions! KM is cruelty free, sulfate and paraben free, and smells incredible with no harsh chemicals or fragrance additives! I’m personally NOT a fan of very fragrant hair care products because they’re just too much for me. KM smells fragrant, but still light and fresh!
The KM Fresh Hair is a game changer and here is why. Typically, you spray dry shampoo on your roots and just rub it in—it is chalky, dry, and proclaims to “eliminate oil”. Yeah, well it might but you still have chalky, icky roots. Fresh Hair actually ABSORBS AND REMOVES dirt and oil. How? So glad you asked! It’s designed to sit on your hair for 1-3 minutes to absorb THEN you take a damp towel to wipe away the remaining product or brush away with a boar bristle teasing comb! So, instead of just masking the dirt and oil, you are removing it!
